TJ aka Young (Beats) hails from Greensboro, NC by way of Chadburn, NC.  He is a talented, passionate producer with a drive beyond his years.   He was turned on to music as a child in his home – fascinated by music videos.  He says they intrigued him and after a few afternoons watching the (new at the time) BET network, his cartoon watching days were over.
Growing up TJ lived in a mostly R&B household.  TJ wanted to be a singer.   It wasn’t until TJ was older that he took an interest in rap music when his cousin, a rapper, began teaching him how.  Later on, he would cross an ear for R&B music and instruments with his newly-acquired taste for hip hop.  Young TJ began making beats.
TJ likes all kinds of music.  When asked to name a few he mentions R&B, rock and folk to show the width of the spectrum.  When naming artists that inspired him growing up (and now) he is more specific though.  He lists Kanye, 50, Cassidy, Wayne, Biggie, Pac, Ice Cube, Dre, Snoop, NWA and KRS-One as his favorites.  He says Kid N Play was his favorite old school act.  He says they were good at what they did and they knew it.  They were cocky and they backed it up when they got on the mic.
The bass-heavy beat maker says that a lot more goes into making tracks than most people would think though it comes naturally to him.  He says the most challenging part of his job is tailoring a beat to an uncertain artist.  “Most rappers have less musical training than singers so sometimes they know what they want but can’t tell you…” he says.  He always manages to pull it off though.
He says when he isn’t making beats by instruction he gets inspired by hearing other people’s beats and combining all the different combinations of concepts in his head.  “When I first started coming up with beats that way I felt like a biter or something.” he says.  “Then I realized these beats are still my creation even though I got inspired by listening to something else.  At the end of the day there are only 8 notes for everybody to share...”
Folks… Here is Young Beats
