DJ Acknowledge

Acknowledge – to admit, show awareness of, appreciate or recognize something.
“I guess everybody wants to be acknowledged for what they do - what they work hard at… I want people to know I was here…”
Official NCSU DJ, Acknowledge, hails from Greensboro NC and his talents run deep.  Raised in the midst of a family of artists and hip hop heads, DJ Acknowledge was exposed to music at a very young age.  As the youngest of four siblings, some of his first memories of music are his brothers knocking Wu in the morning while preparing for school.  Acknowledge later became inspired by a charismatic young MC named Lil Wayne and his label’s Cash Money movement out of New Orleans.  Seeing someone that he could relate to in the hip hop industry nurtured his growing affinity for the (at the time) recently mainstream-accepted genre.  When a young DJ Acknowledge saw the old school movie Juice his passion for it was forever changed.  When asked of that evening he says he had “seen niggas spinnin records before but never like that.”  He says seeing the hand movements and how quickly you had to think is what interested him.  “It’s kind of like freestyling...  I love it.” he says.
Some of his favorite artists and inspirations are Jay-z, Nas, Wu, Cash Money and the Ruff Riders clicks.  Others include DJ Clue, Kid Capri, DJ Enuff and Screwed.  When asked of an old school act that got busy in their day he runs through several options out loud before settling on A Tribe Called Quest.  He says the Bonita Applebum trio “did their thing.”
The laid back North Carolina native admits though that despite his tastes, top priority as a DJ is moving the crowd – and he does.  With years of experience manipulating “party people” like Gepetto, Acknowledge has the ability to take any function to the next level.
Acknowledge says that most people don’t understand how much practice goes into what he does.  Naturally as a DJ he must constantly work to stay up on everything [musically] that comes out.  Also, honing hand movements and quickness is a constant learning process.  Vocals, according to the young DJ, are a whole other story!  This young man exudes a passion for hip hop music and what he can contribute to it that rivals most artists’.  But make no mistake – he is a DJ.
We are NC Stand Up and he is our DJ.
Ladies and Gentlemen… DJ Acknowledge.
